How to check that a phone is genuine before you buy

Buying a phone that turns out to be a copy or an unofficial import is a costly mistake. Use this checklist.

1. Check the IMEI

Dial \*#06# and compare the number with the box and the receipt. Then text KYD <IMEI> to 16002 to confirm the phone is registered with BTRC.

2. Look for the official warranty

Official phones come with a brand warranty card. At eG Mart you can check any device's warranty on our warranty page.

3. Inspect the box

• The seal should be intact
• The serial number on the box must match the phone
• Accessories should be the original brand ones

If anything doesn't match, don't accept the delivery and call us.
